So, this is unusual, but was contacted a few days ago to help a horror film Kickstarter project. Diamando Proimos co-wrote and is producing a horror film titled, Tears of God. Tears of God is described as “an atmospheric feature-length fable about possession, death, and mourning in a rural community.” It’s the first feature film by writer/director Robert Hillyer Barnett and Dia. Their first work together was a short film titled Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, Have Mercy Upon Us. The film was released on Kentucker Audley’s indie curated site, No Budge, where it won best editing in the No Budge awards.
They’ve got a Kickstarter campaign going…at least I think it’s still going. I’m a little late to the table here, having been sick for about a week. But the project can be accessed here.
Tears of God is set to be filmed in Asheville, North Carolina. Dia says they want to tell a story about people who exist in a world barely understood, and the throes of drama, control, and cathartic belief within. Shot in the vein of 80s European horror films, like Argento and Zulawski, the film will meander through the various lives of the village in horrific vignettes with restrained then chaotic performances between floating, meditative long takes. Here’s the trailer:
Involved with the film are: Kate Lyn Sheil (“HOUSE OF CARDS”, SUN DON’T SHINE, VHS, YOU’RE NEXT), Barlow Jacobs (ALEXANDER THE LAST, THE OREGONIAN, ST. NICK, SHOTGUN STORIES), Frank Mosley (UPSTREAM COLOR, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS, WUSS, THE OTHER SIDE OF PARADISE), Amara Gyulai (YOU ARE YOUR BODY/YOU ARE NOT YOUR BODY), Kira Pearson (THE MUD, THE GREGGS), Michael Crabtree (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE LIFE OF DAVID GALE, TENDER MERCIES, TEMPLE GRANDIN), Audrey Speicher (TO.GET.HER, HOLY GOD HOLY MIGHTY), and Samuel Herring (lead singer of the Future Islands, in his debut film role).
You know, I’m a believer in supporting the indie cause, whether it’s books, movies, music, whatever. So take a look at the trailer, visit the site and support ’em!
