Got a One-Star Review for The Bell Witch! Ummm….YEAH!

The Bell Witch 4 (small)

So got a one-star review for The Bell Witch today on Amazon.  I’m pretty open about my  reviews (if you take the good ones, you gotta take the bad), but most of the one-star reviews I’ve gotten (and there aren’t many for any of my books) are kinda…well…stupid.  Go take a look by clicking on the link…I’ll wait here..

People like what they like, and there’s nothing that can be done about that.  But the Amazon reviews are more than comfortably skewed toward the high end.  Even that aside, I’m cool that some people don’t like my stuff.  But, I mean, the worst thing she’s read since her own high school short stories?  I can maintain my objectivity about my writing at most times, and I am very, very comfortable with the knowledge that, among the few key things that I do well, writing is at the top.  The very top.

But today…well, eat a bag of dicks Amazon reviewer.

That’s all I came here to say.  Carry on…

Yeah that’s a bit far!!!! Sure she isn’t your ex-wife or something?

No. She’s not that evil. Not. Quite.

I always wonder about the 1 and 2 star reviews. For me, if I give something a 1 star review, it means it was so badly written that I literally couldn’t force myself to pick it up anymore.

For example, Corey Taylor’s (lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour) first book, Seven Deadly Sins. To me, that was a terrible book and I gave it 1 star, even tho the guy himself oozes an incredible amount of talent. I tried to explain why in my review, without being a dick about it.

I’m in the minority on Goodreads. It has over 1000 ratings and has an average of 4.03 stars. Maybe 1000+ Slipknot fans are the ones who rated it 4-5 stars, who knows.

So I’ve been in the minority like that. What I take issue with is it’s the fashionable thing to do to be as insulting as possible when writing a negative review.

We can assume that her high school short stories were pretty bad. It feels like this reviewer read an entirely different book, then. Maybe she got confused and read Seven Deadly Sins instead.

I read and liked The Bell Witch. I can be a bit picky about what I read, and it had me completely interested from beginning to end. So, to hell with the haters. There’s always gotta be someone to piss on everyone’s parade.

Your average rating is 4 1/2 stars. I would call that a success!

Thanks, Lenny. Most of the time, I’m of the same mindset. That day, she just caught me off guard. I’m pretty comfortable with The Bell Witch. It’s not the best thing I’ve written, but it ain’t the worst either.
