New Digs, Continued!

Here are some more shots of the new digs. Drywall dust from Secret lair construction across the new hardwood floors.  Oh well…  And some random pugs in shots.  And finally, some shots of the Evil Lair.

Living room, with fireplace. To the left are the stairs down to the sunroom. River stone that makes up the fireplace also is the entire wall behind this, down into the sunroom. New hardwood floors, too.

Partially...and I do mean partially...filled bookcases. Lots of geek stuff, though.

Final circuit complete. My pug couch (complete with pugs), the second lamp, and the exit door to the left. That's it!

Move Accomplished! Sigh…

After two years of rehabbing my wife’s house, putting it on the market, pulling it off, more rehabbing, finally selling it, moving her out to the Country Estate (my place), finding a house in the wilds of Middle America 2 hours away from where we live now, buying it and moving (again!), we’re here, officially.

Oh, sure, there are a fuck-ton of boxes and plastic bins still unpacked, lots of art to hang, walls to paint, books (800+, hardcover) to put into shelves, and plenty more to do.  But we’re here and settling.  It’s a terrific feeling.

Downstairs in our lovely home, I’m already working on assembling my new secret writing lair.  Walls are framed and drywalled, taped and mudded.  Priming & painting next week, 16-foot wall of bookshelves installed, then the arduous (yet fun) task of filling them with my books and various geek stuff. decorating and then, of course, writing.  At the moment, I’ve set up camp in the dining room, which isn’t ideal, but I’ve got a bunch of ideas pounding at the door in my mind so hard that the hinges (already loose, mind you) are feeling as if they’re going to unhinge.

So, here are a few pictures of the new place.  Lots of wood and stone, very rural setting, no need to view people from the property, plenty of room for pugs to roam.  No, no need to show the second floor because it’s just the master suite, cheeky monkey.  And no need to see bathrooms or the guest room (except for the chosen few of you who may get an invite) or my wife’s office.  But this should hold you over until I finish the office in a week or so.

Dining room, from the kitchen. My base camp until Secret Lair is finished.

Kitchen, looking in from the dining room. Spacious, which is nice since Deb and I both had atrociously small kitchens.

From the kitchen, looking down into the sunroom. Wall to the right is all glass, looking out onto slate patio. Wall to the left is all stone, floor to ceiling, the back of the fireplace in the living room. Yes, that is a liquor trolley against the far wall.
